11/27/2016 – Patapsco Celebrates 20 Years!!

Just FriendsThis month Patapsco Friends have been meeting for 20 years. On Sunday, 11/27, we’re celebrating simply, with song, worship and sharing. We expect some Friends from our past to be joining us.

And eating. Please bring a contribution for our pot luck. Thanksgiving leftovers!? Or something from your fridge.

Here’s what’s going on:

9:30-10:30  Singing in celebration. Bring your voice and favorite songs!
10:30-11:30 Worship
Lunch is Potluck with birthday cake for dessert
12:30-2  Worship sharing: What has PFM meant to you?

Sunday, Sept 25 at 12:30 pm Peace Day Celebration

Peace DayThe International Day of Peace (“Peace Day”) is observed around the world each year on 21 September. Established in 1981 by the United Nations, the General Assembly has declared this as a day devoted to “commemorating and strengthening the ideals of peace both within and among all nations and peoples.”

This year Patapsco Friends Meeting will celebrate Peace Day with an afternoon of peaceful dancing and poetry led by Peggy Adams.

“The Dances of Universal Peace are spiritual practice in motion. Drawing on the sacred phrases, scripture, and poetry of the many spiritual traditions of the earth, the Dances blend chant, live music and movement into a living experience of unity and peace.”

All are welcome – No experience necessary! This program is open to the community.

Adult Discussion and Study, Events

Sunday, Aug 21 at Noon – Corruptive Influences on Congress

Bill Wilson will lead the discussion. Many feel Congress has become influenced by more than ‘the will of the people’ in modern times. How does this alter our representative democracy and affect decisions? Is everyone across the political spectrum – left, middle, and right – impacted? What efforts are underway to correct it?  How do we as Quakers influence the dialogue and provide a forum that seeks solutions?

Bill Wilson is an attender of Patapsco Friends Meeting. He is not affiliated with any political party, and prefers his political discussions to ‘generate more light than heat.’ He seeks to understand the viewpoints of others, but has felt a strong calling to educate on this issue. His love of solving problems led him to become an electrical engineer and project manager for products ranging from car wash point-of-sale systems to communications test equipment. He lives in Columbia, MD with his wife and six cats.

Saturday, July 2 Serving Lunch at Our Daily Bread in Baltimore

Join us Saturday from 8 am to 1 pm to serve at Our Daily Bread, the largest soup kitchen in Maryland. The Peace and Social Concerns Committee is organizing another opportunity for direct service.

Meet at 8am at Hebron House and carpool. We sign in, set up service, and participate in an orientation for new volunteers at 9am, lunch is from 10am – 12pm. Expect to be back to Mt. Hebron by 1pm.
