9/24/2017 at Noon Patapsco Celebrates International Peace Day

The United Nations established Peace Day in 1981. This year’s theme is “Together for Peace: Respect, Safety and Dignity for All”. The theme is based on the Together global campaign that promotes respect, safety and dignity for everyone forced to flee their homes in search of a better life. For more info, see UN Peace Day

For our celebration at Patapsco, we’ll explore through queries how our family experiences impact the way we look at the current refugee/immigration situation.

We invite you to share a story from your family history and an object that relates to the story. Our celebration falls on Potluck Sunday so we also encourage you to bring a dish from your family traditions

Sponsored by the Peace and Social Concerns Committee

2/12/17 at Noon: “Fracking Western Maryland?”

Join Patapsco Friends as we watch “Fracking Western Maryland?” to learn about the process of fracking and the problems with fracking in the western portion of Maryland.

Sunday, 2/12/17, at Noon, after Simple Meal, on the second level of Hebron House. Join us for worship at 10:30am. All are always welcome!

This landmark documentary film by Mike Wicklein captures the contentious issues surrounding the fracking moratorium bill that was passed in the 2015 legislative session. The film features many familiar faces of Garrett County and legislators in Annapolis who advocated for and fought against the bill. You will learn how Engage Mountain Maryland and other grass roots organizations helped rally support to change the trajectory of this very important decision to hit the pause button on fracking Western Maryland.

See http://chesapeakeclimate.org/maryland/fracking/ and http://www.engagemmd.org/engage-edu for more information on the fracking issue.
