9/24/2017 at Noon Patapsco Celebrates International Peace Day

The United Nations established Peace Day in 1981. This year’s theme is “Together for Peace: Respect, Safety and Dignity for All”. The theme is based on the Together global campaign that promotes respect, safety and dignity for everyone forced to flee their homes in search of a better life. For more info, see UN Peace Day

For our celebration at Patapsco, we’ll explore through queries how our family experiences impact the way we look at the current refugee/immigration situation.

We invite you to share a story from your family history and an object that relates to the story. Our celebration falls on Potluck Sunday so we also encourage you to bring a dish from your family traditions

Sponsored by the Peace and Social Concerns Committee

Sunday, Sept 25 at 12:30 pm Peace Day Celebration

Peace DayThe International Day of Peace (“Peace Day”) is observed around the world each year on 21 September. Established in 1981 by the United Nations, the General Assembly has declared this as a day devoted to “commemorating and strengthening the ideals of peace both within and among all nations and peoples.”

This year Patapsco Friends Meeting will celebrate Peace Day with an afternoon of peaceful dancing and poetry led by Peggy Adams.

“The Dances of Universal Peace are spiritual practice in motion. Drawing on the sacred phrases, scripture, and poetry of the many spiritual traditions of the earth, the Dances blend chant, live music and movement into a living experience of unity and peace.”
